Breed Profile

The Bolognese Dog is a small breed of dog of the bichon type, hailing from Italy. As the name suggests, its origin can be traced to the central North Italian city of Bologna. It is part of the Toy dog group and is considered a companion dog. They crave attention, and make good house pets. They excel at socializing with other kinds of dogs, regardless of size. They forge strong bonds with the person/s of their surroundings.

Temperament

The Bolognese are known to be playful, laidback, earnest, eager. smart, and loyal. They are not known to be hyperactive and are usually more withdrawn than the Bichon Frise. The Bolognese is very responsive to obedience training. They are very intelligent, eager and fast to pick up new things, fun  to train, however they can be very obstinate when not getting their way. In no time, a Bolognese will train with potty pads and a bell-ringing notification system for taking potty breaks outside.

Living Environment

The Bolognese Dog is suitable for apartment life. It will fare reasonably well without a yard. This is a suitable breed for kids and is known to be fun loving, energetic, and show affection toward them. It is also friendly toward strangers. While Bolognese are perfectly happy to prance around the house, however, it is important that they also have a daily walk of 20 minute a couple of times a day or substitute 10-minute walks a couple of times a day.

Health

Bolognese are typically a healthy breed and are not prone to any major problems.
