The Border Collie hails from the border region of England and Scotland, and is considered one of the cleverest dog breeds. It is medium-sized, vigorous, and is a diligent dog. Border collies are amenable to training and derive pleasure in pleasing their master. They’re also very athletic and competitive.
Temperament
The Border Collie is alert, energetic, hardworking, and smart. He is a fast learner so needs be challenged adequately. He loves being busy and if he is not busy, boredom hits him. Boredom makes him indulge in annoying behavior, such as barking, digging, or chasing cars.
Color & Coat
Coat: Typically, Border Collies are medium-sized dogs with a moderate amount of coat, which is most often thick and sheds often. They have a double coat, which ranges from smooth to rough and is occasionally curled.
Color: While black and white is the most commonly seen colour pattern of the Border Collie, the breed also exhibits just about any colour and pattern known to occur in dogs.
Health
Collie eye anomaly (CEA) and epilepsy are considered major health concerns in the breed. CEA is a congenital, inherited eye disease involving the retina, choroid, and sclera that at times affects Border Collies. In Border Collies, it is generally a mild disease, which only rarely impairs vision. However, other eye conditions such as PRA is known to slowly disintegrates the retina, which in turn can cause Border Collies to lose almost all of their vision at night and progress into complete daytime blindness.
