Boston Terrier
Breed Profile
Boston Terriers , previously called American bull terriers are compact, short-bodied, well-developed dogs. The Boston Terrier, being a down-sized version of the Bull-and-Terrier types, is a genuine American breed. Breeds believed to have influenced the development of the Boston Terrier include the American Pit Bull Terrier, Boxer, English Bull Terrier, French Bulldog and English Bulldog. In the early days of the breed they were often referred to by different names, including Round-headed Bull and Terriers, American Bull Terriers and Bullet Heads.
Temperament
Boston Terriers exhibit a kind and friendly temperament. They are also alert, intelligent, and are good with people including children, the elderly, and strangers. Although Boston terriers can be live indoors, they must be taken on long strolls or properly exercised.
Color & Coat
Coat: The Boston Terrier has short fine coat, with distinctive markings, which adds to its dapper appearance.
Color: The Boston Terrier coat can be either white or black, brindle, or seal (dark brown)
Health
Curvature of the back, called roaching, might be caused by patella problems with the rear legs, which in turn causes the dog to put its weight onto the forelegs. This might also just be a structural fault with little consequence to the dog. Due to their shortened muzzles, many Boston Terriers are not able to stand very hot or cold weather and owners should bear in mind that making them exercise under such conditions can be detrimental to their health. The Boston Terriers is not blessed with a strong digestive system and is prone to flatulence, which can be corrected by a better diet.
