Landseer
Breed Profile
The Landseer was called after the British painter Sir Edwin Henry Landseer, or precisely after his painting A Distinguished Member of the Humane Society in 1838, which depicts a Landseer dog. Due to their excellent swimming skills, these dogs were utilized by fishermen to tow nets to the shore. It is believed that, most of its exportation of these dogs occurred during the late 18th century.
Temperament
The Landseer Newfoundland dog is known for its kind disposition, gentleness, and serenity. They enjoy swimming and tend to drool, though not as much as some other giant breeds. Whilst the Landseer European Continental Type is also sweet, affectionate and enjoys swimming, it differs from the Landseer Newfoundland in its ability to respond with agility and speed.
