Breed Profile
The Standard Poodle is believed to be the eldest of the three recognized breed sizes. Poodle sizes are based primarily by height and not weight. Standard Poodles are over 15 inches tall. Miniature Poodles are over 10 inches tall but less than 15 inches. Toy Poodles are 10 inches tall or less. Originally, this dog was used for wildfowling.
Temperament
Poodles are known to have a high IQ. They brim with energy and are keen to socialize and thrive when given both physical and intellectual activities. This breed is known for its acute sense for instinctive behavior. Poodles are typically shy during the first encounters, but as time elapses, they gradually reveal a warm and personable disposition.
Color & Coat
Coat: The Standard Poodle’s hallmark is its harsh, dense coat, which is presented in various traditional trims or, less frequently, corded.
Color: The Poodle can exhibit a wide spectrum of hues, including white, black, brown, silver, gray, silver beige, apricot, red, cream, sable, and patterns such as phantom and brindle.
Health
The breed suffers from serious health issues of Standard Poodles, including Addison’s disease, gastric dilatation volvulus, thyroid issues (hyperthyroid and hypothyroid), tracheal collapse, epilepsy, sebaceous adenitis, juvenile renal disease, hip dysplasia, and cancer.
