Breed Profile

The Caucasian Shepherd Dog is a majestic and powerful dog with a slight rectangular shape. Males can be distinguished by its bigger head in comparison with females. Their bodies are also more massive and shorter than those of females. In dogs with longer coat-variety males have a distinctly pronounced mane.

Temperament

The Caucasian Shepherd Dog is known to be steady, active, self-confident, fearless and independent. The Caucasian displays a devoted attachment to its master and is an
excellent guard dog.

Color & Coat

Coat: Straight, coarse, stand-off coat with well developed undercoat. Dense and waterproof.

Color: Any solid colour, piebald or spotted colour. Except for solid black, diluted black or black in any combination or genetic blue or liver brown colour.

Living Environment

The Caucasian Shepherd Dog is not a happy camper in an apartment. They require space and will fare best within at least a large yard. Because its thick protective coat, it is well equipped to live outdoors provided it has proper shelter.

Health

The Caucasian Shepherd Dog generally enjoys good health and has a long life expectancy.  Some dogs may have health issues, including ip dysplasia, obesity and occasional heart problems, although the majority of these dogs remain healthy with correct care.
